2nd activity: “Mathematics and what else?”

In “Mathematics and what else?”, the students examined the links between Mathematics and Natural Sciences, such as Science, Physics, Geography and PE and they understood how these subjects use the language of Mathematics in their own approaches:

  • Science:

 - the percentage of sugar in common food among students;

 - the characterization of the population in terms of smoking habits (percentages, graphics…);

 - food among the school population (snacks) – calculation of the energy content);

 - Solar System (distance units used in Astronomy vs. Common distance units; scales);

 - the morphology of the sea beds (scales);

  • Physics:

 - the use of measuring instruments;

 - Earth's rotation and translation movements;

 - the apparent movement of the Sun and the observation and measurement of the Sun at noon;

measuring units - force (Newton) and pressure (Pascal);

  • Geography:

 - the conversion of scales and calculation of actual distances.

  • PE:

 - the formation of training columns;

 - setting students along different lines (geometric circuits, using balls);

Besides, an e-book with fundamental Maths terminology has been organised and it was included on the project website.
